Bands assume a standard single opening with a new frame, like-for-like replacement and normal access. Non-standard sizes, side panels, and structural work to widen an opening all add to the job — widening for bifolds in particular needs a structural lintel and often Building Control sign-off.
What a proper door quote includes

- Removal and disposal — the old door and frame taken out and taken away.
- The full set — door, frame, threshold, handles, letterplate and a multi-point lock, not a bare slab.
- Fitting and making good — sealed, trimmed and tidy around the reveals inside and out.

- A written guarantee — typically 10 years on the door set and sealed units.
The classic catch with cheap door quotes is a slab-only price: the door itself without the frame, furniture or fitting. If one quote is hundreds under the rest, check what is missing.

- Material — uPVC is cheapest; composite adds a solid core and GRP skin; aluminium and timber cost more to fabricate.
- Glass — glazed panels and side lights add cost and must meet the same thermal rules as windows.

- Colour and finish — non-white and woodgrain finishes typically add 10–20% on uPVC and composite.
